What you need

How to do it
- 1Cut two or three black-and-white paper shapes.
- 2Hang them about 30 cm above the mat.
- 3Lay baby underneath and stay quiet while they look.
How it actually goes
The honest version — including what "going well" looks like at this age.
- ⏱ 30-second set-up
- Ten minutes once: cut two black-and-white shapes from card and hang them from string well out of arm's reach, above where your baby lies.
- 🧑 What you do
- Lie your baby underneath, stay in the room, and take the whole thing down when you leave.
- 👶 What they do
- Stare, kick, and eventually swipe.
- ✅ What success looks like
- Under 1, two solid minutes of staring is a full session. Kicking with excitement counts more than touching.
- 🧺 How to put it away
- Untie and store flat — never leave string up near a sleeping baby.
- 📈 When they outgrow it
- Once they reach, hang it lower so a swipe makes it spin.
