Nice to have โ not needed today ($3)
Everything we put in your daily three is free and already in the kitchen. This one needs small toys if you want to try it.

How to do it
- 1Freeze small toys in a bowl of water overnight.
- 2Tip out the ice block onto a tray.
- 3Free the toys with warm water, salt, and spoons.
How it actually goes
The honest version โ including what "going well" looks like at this age.
- โฑ 30-second set-up
- Tonight: drop a few chunky toys into a bowl of water and freeze it. Tomorrow: turn it out onto a tray with a towel underneath, warm water in a cup and a spoon.
- ๐ง What you do
- Set it down, hand over the warm water, and resist rescuing the toys. Sit close with the towel.
- ๐ถ What they do
- Pour, chip, lick, complain about cold hands, and work out that warm water wins.
- โ What success looks like
- At 2โ3, freeing one toy in fifteen minutes is a success. Plenty of children just pour water for the whole time โ that's still the science.
- ๐งบ How to put it away
- Tip the melt into a plant, toys in the sink, towel in the wash. They can carry the towel.
- ๐ When they outgrow it
- At 4โ5, freeze two bowls and race: warm water versus salt.
